On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor

A Gothic Tale of Heartache and Hope

I often admire well crafted sentences or those that make me smile. This one was so stellar it made me snort kombucha out my nose because it was so unexpected:
Lula’s voice pierced the air with the subtlety of a drunk announcing “drinks for all” in a saloon.

And that, my friends, is just one of the many reasons you should snatch up On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor as fast as you can pedal your bike to the bookstore.

Deliciously gothic, this tale has all the makings of a Poe and Bronte mashup. I was hooked from the get go, it's that enthralling. But it's not just the plot that's killer. Let's take a moment to appreciate my favorite character, Mr. Crayne, shall we? He won my heart from the moment he made his mysterious entrance to the very satisfying last scene. Yes, he's flawed but totally understandable. He's such a tortured soul. Really, really well done character and one heckuva hero!

I also need to mention a close second is Jude. It's rare to see an autistic man written with such flare. The bond between him and Kailey was heartwarming.

Two thumbs up to what is now my favorite Jaime Jo Wright tale! And if my endorsement isn’t enough for you, check out this cover…

1885.
Adria Fontaine has been sent to recover goods her father pirated on the Great Lakes during the war. But when she arrives at Foxglove Manor--a stone house on a cliff overlooking Lake Superior--Adria senses wickedness hovering over the property. The mistress of Foxglove is an eccentric and seemingly cruel old woman who has filled her house with dangerous secrets, ones that may cost Adria her life.

Present day.
Kailey Gibson is a new nurse's aide at a senior home in a renovated old stone manor. Kidnapped as a child, she has nothing but locked-up memories of secrets and death, overshadowed by the chilling promise from her abductors that they would return. When the residents of Foxglove start sharing stories of whispers in the night, hidden treasure, and a love willing to kill, it becomes clear this home is far from a haven. She'll have to risk it all to banish the past's demons, including her own.
