And guess who’s one of those authors? You got it…little ol’ me, Michelle Griep. I write all things romantic, historic, and with plenty of action, mostly focusing on the Regency and Victorian era. I always serve my stories with plenty of intrigue, and my newest release, Man of Shadow and Mist, is no different. Here’s what it’s about:

England, 1890
Vampires are alive and well in North Yorkshire, leastwise in the minds of the uneducated. Librarian Rosa Edwards intends to drive a stake through the heart of such superstitions. But gossip flies when the mysterious Sir James Morgan returns to his shadowy manor. The townsfolk say he is cursed.

James hates everything about England. The weather. The rumours. The scorn. Yet he must stay. His mother is dying of a disease for which he’s desperately trying to find a cure—an illness that will eventually take his own life.

When Rosa sets out to prove the dark gossip about James is wrong, she discovers more questions than answers. How can she accept what she can’t explain—especially the strong allure of the enigmatic man? James must battle a town steeped in fear as well as the unsettling attraction he feels for the no-nonsense librarian.

Can love prevail in a town filled with fear and doubt?

As you may have guessed, this definitely has somewhat of a Dracula vibe. What do you know about the author of that classic tale?

Top 5 Myths About Dracula

Halloween or not, Dracula is an iconic literary figure that’s fun to talk about no matter the season. But just how much do you know about this famous count? Here are 5 myths about the famous vampire.

1. Vampires only attack virgin women.
While it’s true Dracula preyed upon the lovely Lucy and Mina, it wasn’t because he had a thing for unmarried women. Vampires want blood no matter who it comes from.

2. Dracula was a real person.
Only in author Bram Stoker’s head…but what a fertile imagination the man had! He based the count on the historical figure of Vlad Tepes, aka Vlad the Impaler. In my story, I recount the actual scene of Bram Stoker visiting the Whitby library where he read about the man.

3. A crucifix will burn a vampire.
In the story of Dracula, being near a crucifix caused the count to lose his supernatural strength, not suffer a burn.

4. Dracula’s castle is based on one in Transylvania.
Actually, author Bram Stoker never even visited Transylvania. Most critics believe Stoker took inspiration from Slains Castle in Scotland for the famous home of the count. Stoker spent several summers in nearby Cruden Bay so he was familiar with the Slains Castle ruins.

5. Dracula was the original title of this famous gothic piece.
Yeah, no. Not so. Most authors have a working title for the manuscript they’re working on and Stoker was no different. He called the story The Dead Un-dead, which was later shortened to The Un-dead, and then changed altogether just before publication to Dracula.

How did you do? Are you a Dracula afficionado? Whether vampires are your thing or not, the folklore is timeless. Some people believe. Others don’t. But almost all have an opinion—just as the townspeople did in my latest release Man of Shadow and Mist…which doesn’t go well for our heroine librarian and mysterious baronet.
