Marketing Shmarketing

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm celebrating my one year anniversary here at Writer Off the Leash. Yeah, it's grown, but I haven't pulled in nearly the numbers that I'd hoped to. I almost started moping about that until I came across this quote...

"If you can't build a small audience,
how can you expect to build a large audience?"
~ Dan Blank, We Grow Media

What a great bit of encouragement for us small fry bloggers, eh? Made me wonder what other kind of encouragement Dan Blank had to offer. So I looked up the dude and found out he's got some great motivational ideas for writers, specifically related to how to increase a tribe.

Try this test of his. If he offered you a prize of $50,000 to find 5 people who would be interested in your next book in the next 3 hours, where would you go? Who would you call? What groups could you reach out to? Where are these people congregating? Very helpful questions when you think about who your target market is...and the answers just might make your next proposal stand out of the crowd. Anything you can do to give a publisher's marketing department some ideas and/or help is a definite boost to your writing career.

Think about it. Besides your mom, who could you market your next book to?

Don't forget the big Anniversary Extravaganza Giveaway. One lucky commenter between now and the end of the month will win a signed copy of UNDERCURRENT.
