Thoughts on Losing My Mom

My mom died this week. She was 99, which seems ancient, but in the grand scheme of things, is it really? Are we ever ready to lose a parent even if they live to 150?

Over the years I shared many Bible verses with her. One in particular is Isaiah 41:10, which she memorized, and we would frequently say together:

“Fear not, for I am with you.
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you.
I will help you.
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

I like to think God is upholding her, but the truth is I don’t know. All any of us can be certain of is our own relationship with God. Death reminds us our days are numbered and you never know which breath will be your last. Do not delay to make your own peace with God. Now.

One of the things I did with my mom over the past 3 months when I wasn’t allowed to see her was to mail her Scripture. Here is the most recent one I sent her, taken from Romans:

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved.
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

My last words to my mom were, “Call on Jesus, Mom. Just call on Jesus.”

And that is my prayer for you all.
