Cover Reveal: The Captured Bride

The unveiling of an exciting new series rooted in American history.

What if you were given this assignment…write a novel set some time during the French and Indian War which includes some kind of espionage and the heroine must be able to trace her roots back to the Mayflower. Oh yeah, and the title will be The Captured Bride so that heroine is going to have to get captured by someone as well.

So, could you do it? What would you write? Would you accept the challenge?

That was the information presented to me last spring, and I jumped at the chance. Actually, I'm still jumping. The Captured Bride is the manuscript I'm currently working on. Here's the premise of the story I came up with:

A war-torn countryside is no place for a lady—but Mercy Lytton is a lady like none other. Raised amongst the Mohawks, she straddles two cultures, yet each are united in one cause . . . to defeat the French. Born with a rare gift of unusually keen eyesight, she is chosen as a scout to accompany a team of men on a dangerous mission. Yet it is not her life that is threatened. It is her heart.

Condemned as a traitor, Elias Dubois faces the gallows. At the last minute, he’s offered his freedom if he consents to accompany a stolen shipment of French gold to a nearby fort—but he’s the one they stole it from in the first place. It turns out that the real thief is the beguiling woman, Mercy Lytton, for she steals his every waking thought.

Can love survive divided loyalties in a backcountry wilderness?

And here's the awesome cover to go along with the story:

Honestly, this is one of my favorite covers ever, and it's book 3 in a series I'm pretty doggone excited about. The Daughters of the Mayflower will follow a family tree linked by daughters across American history from the landing of the Mayflower through the events of Word War II.

The 18-book series, scheduled to release over the course of three years, will kick off in February 2018 with The Mayflower Bride by popular author Kimberley Woodhouse. This book, which takes place in 1620, features voyages on both the Speedwell and the Mayflower and will set the stage for subsequent books with its focus on adventure, romance, and a thread of espionage that is woven throughout each of the 18 stories. Here are the covers for the first two books:

The Mayflower Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse

The Pirate Bride by Kathleen Y’Barbo

Releasing every other month by a team of well-known authors, the Daughters of the Mayflower will satisfy voracious readers of Christian fiction continuously for three years. The books are written in such a way that they can be read in succession or stand alone, making them perfect for readers interested in specific time periods in American history.
